Technology is going 3-D, that’s a huge trend sweeping the country, and now it’s extending to the field of surgery too. Sony Electronic’s Medical Systems Division partners with Haag-Streit USA to produce 3-D technologies. This announcement was made at the recent meeting for the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, at their annual scientific conference.
The news is huge as it means 3-D will improve the efficiency and details for medical staff who will use the 3-D in 4-K resolution primarily during surgeries. From Sony, the technology will be the MCC-3000MT camera, which is a 3-D type. It will combine with Haag Streit’s HS 5-1000 microscopic system that is used for neurosurgery.
Within the new venture, the Sony camera will mount onto Haag Streit’s microscope to provide the ultimate in neurosurgery research options. It will allow for video recording, display in 3-D and editing features. The import and edit of footage will be useful for training sessions of surgeons and aid in diagnostic activities. The new imaging system will not obstruct any part of the microscope system at all.
As well, the HS 5-1000 system uses SensoServo drive technology, which allows the microscope to move in any direction. That means that balancing is not needed; it is a smooth action when used. The seamless use of the microscope will be extremely beneficial for Operating Rooms who decide to incorporate the new 3-D option.
Haag-Streit has its US headquarters in Mason, Ohio. It manufactures a range of optical instruments. As for Sony’s Medical Systems Division, they offer several 3D medical gadgets, including an LMD-3251MT 32” 3D medical monitor, which has a backlit tech feature.
