If you’re a Slack user, you’ll open up your app and see a new design. There are also additional features in the new release, which includes added emoji support, as well as notifications teams and the addition of tabs.
Version 2.0 is meant to be faster and better, as per the release announcement from Slack’s website. The designers explain that the update took so long because there were many changes to make to the app.
Design changes to the Slack app include a new tab system for navigation. The previous left and right drawers users were familiar with are now non-existent. Tabs offer quick access to mentions, starred items, all of the user’s channels, and direct messages.
On the subject of direct messages, Slack 2.0 offers users the option to add emoji’s to their messages. They can also change the text format of their messages. The new system is now fully Android, and so it can support this new function.
The new Slack app design is certainly a take on the guidelines of Google’s Material Design. There are new icons and faster transitions between screens to make for a smoother user experience on a range of devices.
Users will find a quicker speed for activities such as switching teams and switching channels. In general, load time is faster from screen to screen within this particular application after the 2.0 upgrade, explains Slack in its announcement, adding that there will be more advances to come for its users.
The upgrade is part of Slack’s strategy to expand its usage, both within companies and across more companies.
The Slack app is meant to bring team collaboration together into one place for ease of messaging, file sharing, and related functions. It is available for iOS or Android OS, so you can use it on your iPhone, iPad, Android smartphone or Android tablet.
